Dear Dr Dhruti Maru, Your communication skills helped a lot. Thats what captured my attention at first. You took out the medical jargon and explained to me what was happening to my body and the importance of physical therapy. I was absolutely reluctant at first and you saw the need to reach out to my psychological understanding of the physio process even before the physical. You also kept on encouraging me that l won’t need surgery and that l will get back to my normal dreams and activities of dancing and wearing heels. Keep encouraging patients and helping them understand the process Am glad to have met you as you’ve literally walked with me through a very tough point in my life. Now my beautiful legs have a new lease on life; Walking again normally feels like heaven and hence l cannot wait to be fully recovered. You’re an amazing physiotherapist... you’ve changed my life and you will change many more.

My husband had a road accident on 26/09/2016 in Lodwar and sustained a spinal injury which lead to paraplegia of the lower limbs. It was very devastating since we are both medics and thus understood very well of what this meant. Its been a long journey for us as a family. Our 3 children were greatly affected especially in their academics but with a lot of encouragement they were able to cope. After my husband was air lifted from Lodwar, he was taken in for surgery at Nairobi hospital the following morning and all went on well. We embarked on endless physiotherapy sessions thereafter in the same hospital.

I love attending symposiums that are my work related. It was during one of those times that I meant one my doctor colleague who told me of a group of India surgeons that were frequent visitors at Nairobi Women Hospital. I decided to take my husband for their opinion over his condition. It was November 2016, meaning about 2 months after the accident. This is where I met Dr. Ritesh who has now moved Parklands at Doctors' park next to Aga Khan Hospital. After listening keenly and going through all the x - rays, scans and all that we had, Dr. Ritesh asked me one question, ;Mrs. Mwangi, do you mind taking your husband for a repeat MRI of the spine?; I quickly said I didn't mind. Dr. Ritesh wanted to ascertain if the surgery was done well because there had many complains of many patients having undergone surgeries operated wrongly and later sent to India for further management. I was impressed by his approach in our case. We had the MRI done and took it back to him same day. He gave my husband a clean bill of health in relation to the spine surgery and referred us to Restoration Physiotherapy situated in Karen Fana Road where we met Dr. Cathrine Wambua. Within three weeks, my husband was able to lift his lower limbs, stretch and stand with support. Today, he still attends the physiotherapy sessions and he can now walk and take a bath on his own. I was happy with Dr. Ritesh since he was not driven by greed. He is professional in his work and practices integrity. Thank you so much Dr. Ritesh and Dr. Cathrine for the great support you have granted us. God bless you in your endeavors.
